The church was built in the 1100's, but was further transformed during the 1300's and then finally in the early Renaissance its present design was completed.

Following the terrible flood of the 1960's, it was fully restored, including the delicate frescoes of the smaller chapels. The interior is gothic, but the artwork is Renaissance. Some of the finest artists of the 1400's have contributed to the beauty of the church's interior. Among these Lorenzo Monaco with a painting of the Annunciation, while the tomb of Federighi is a magnificent work of art by the famed Luca della Robbia. The frescoes are by Domenico Ghirlandaio.

A wedding at this church is certainly to become an unforgettable event, best of all you are in the very heart of Florence, the Palazzo Vecchio is within a stone's throw as is the romantic Ponte Vecchio, the most famous bridge in the city. Furthermore, you have a superb selection of villas, castles or elegant restaurants where to celebrate your reception!
