Destination Weddings in Liguria

Liguria borders southern France and its sparkling coastline is known as the Italian Riviera. Coupled with a stunning mountainous backdrop, this region is a highly popular choice for weddings in Italy.

Genoa is Liguria's capital and the largest port in Italy. This vibrant and highly atmospheric city is home to a cosmopolitan community, and its rich past has left it with a fascinatingly dense old town and some beautiful architecture.

Genoa's showpiece buildings include the Cattedrale di San Lorenzo, with its stunning treasury, several medieval churches and a collection of late Renaissance palaces. Recently renovated, these palaces now hold much of the city's art. The medieval alleyways of the bustling old town are riveting to explore - Genoa is a unique city that cannot fail to captivate its visitors.

East of the capital is the Riviera di Levante - a coastal strip characterized by a succession of small bays overlooked by rugged cliffs. The scenery in this region is superb - fishing villages, vineyards and mountains including the Monte di Portofino, which offers great views over the sea. There are many chic resorts situated along the coast, including Portofino and Santa Margherita Ligure.

West of Genoa is the Riviera di Ponente - more lovely coastline and several popular Riviera resorts. The largest of these is San Remo, which is a center of the Italian flower industry, its hillsides covered in glasshouses. Some quieter destinations along the coast include the medieval towns of Albenga and Noli, and the pretty seaside town of Finale Ligure.

Head to inland Liguria for mountain slopes carpeted in vines and olive trees, remote mountain villages and secluded resorts high in the mountains, such as Torriglia. This part of the region provides a real contrast with the coast and has its own special appeal.

Golden sands, deep blue waters and rugged mountains all await you. Wherever you choose to celebrate your wedding in Liguria, you can be assured that it is an excellent choice.
