The gardens, the "green lung of Rome", are considered the city's most important green space and stretch across 80 hectares, enjoying some spectacular views in key points.
The English garden landscape is what strikes you when you enter for the first time. There are many beautiful items worthwhile noticing: the Italian gardens near the Casino Borghese; avenues and paths embellished by statues and fountains; the Garden of the Lake, thus called because it stretches around an artificial lake, with emperor Settimio Severo arch and Asclepius temple.
There can hardly be a more romantic spot for taking a stroll or for a Symbolic ceremony. The "Lake Garden" was used to site the Borghese family's historic collection of ancient art. Following restoration, the historic tree-lined walkways are open once more, complete with new lawns and flowerbeds, a landscape of trees, shrubs and herbaceous borders. An English-style cast-iron pergola frames the lake, just as it was at the beginning of the 1900s. Delightful rockeries of tufa rock line the banks of the old stream that feeds the lake.
